The gingival margin, or gumline, is the edge of the gingiva (gums) that surrounds the teeth. It’s a collar-like structure that follows the scalloped pattern of the cementoenamel junction (CEJ), the point where the tooth’s enamel and root cementum meet. The gingival margin is typically a translucent pink color and appears firm, but lacks the stippling (small, irregular indentations) seen in the attached gingiva.
