A pressure cuff, or sphygmomanometer, is a medical device used to measure blood pressure. It consists of an inflatable rubber cuff, which is wrapped around the upper arm and connected to a gauge that records the pressure. The cuff is inflated to temporarily stop blood flow in the artery, and as it deflates, the pressure is measured using a stethoscope to listen for sounds of blood flow.
