A manual (mechanical) blood pressure monitor, also known as a sphygmomanometer, is a device used to measure blood pressure. It consists of an inflatable cuff that is wrapped around the upper arm, a pressure meter (either a mercury column or an aneroid dial), and a bulb to inflate the cuff. A stethoscope is also used to listen for blood flow sounds, as the cuff is deflated, to determine systolic and diastolic pressures.
