A mechanical blood pressure meter, also known as a sphygmomanometer, is a device used to measure blood pressure manually. It consists of an inflatable cuff, a manometer (either mercury or aneroid), and a mechanism for inflating and deflating the cuff. The cuff is placed on the upper arm and inflated to stop blood flow, then slowly deflated while the pressure is monitored on the manometer, allowing the operator to determine systolic and diastolic pressures using a stethoscope.
