An Interferon-Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) kit is a blood test used to determine if a person has been infected with the bacteria that cause tuberculosis (TB). These tests measure the body’s immune response to TB proteins by measuring the amount of a protein called interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) released by T cells when exposed to TB antigens. IGRAs are an alternative to TB skin tests, which are another type of TB screening test.
