Eosin-methylene blue (EMB) agar is selective for gram-negative bacteria against gram-positive bacteria. In addition, EMB agar is useful in isolation and differentiation of the various gram-negative bacilli and enteric bacilli, generally known as coliforms and fecal coliforms respectively.
