Diamide is a thiol-oxidizing reagent, specifically used to convert thiol groups (like in cysteine) to disulfide bonds. It is also known as tetramethylazodicarboxamide (TMAD). Diamide is a yellow, non-hygroscopic solid that is soluble in water and organic solvents. It is a radiation-sensitizing agent for anoxic cells, meaning it increases the sensitivity of cells to radiation when they are not able to access oxygen.
