A balance scale, also known as a beam balance, is a device used to measure the mass of an object by comparing it to known masses. It consists of a horizontal lever (the beam) with equal arms, and two pans (or platforms) suspended from each arm. One pan holds the object to be weighed, while the other holds standard weights until the beam is balanced, indicating an equal mass on each side.
