An ankle orthosis, also known as an Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO), is a medical device that is worn on the lower leg and foot to support the ankle and foot, and to control or assist movement. It can be used to correct or prevent deformities, improve walking, and reduce pain. AFOs are designed to fit snugly around the ankle and foot, often with a Velcro strap at the calf and potentially additional straps for more support. They can be made of various materials, including plastic, and can be either solid (no movement) or hinged.
