Urea buffer is a solution containing urea, a mild chaotropic agent, used primarily to solubilize and denature proteins. It’s commonly used in protein purification, sample preparation for electrophoretic methods like SDS-PAGE and two-dimensional electrophoresis, and in proteomics to facilitate enzymatic digestion and analysis. While helpful, urea can also lead to protein modifications like carbamylation.
