Dental papilla refers to a group of mesenchymal cells beneath the enamel organ, essential for the formation of the pulp and dentin of a tooth. In the upper jaw (maxilla), this structure develops alongside the enamel organ and surrounding dental follicle to form the tooth bud. The papilla’s cells later differentiate into odontoblasts, which produce dentin, and into pulp cells, which form the tooth’s pulp chamber.
