Buccal gingival tissue, or the gums on the cheek side of the teeth, is a specialized, keratinized mucosal tissue that surrounds the teeth and covers the alveolar bone. It’s a fibroepithelial tissue, meaning it’s composed of both fibrous tissue and epithelial tissue. The gingiva is firmly attached to the underlying bone and forms a seal around the tooth, protecting the underlying bone and acting as a barrier against infection.
