Serum collection involves collecting whole blood, allowing it to clot, and then separating the resulting liquid, which is the serum, from the clot and blood cells. This is typically done by venipuncture (drawing blood from a vein) into a sterile tube, then allowing the blood to clot undisturbed. The clot is then removed by centrifugation, and the clear, supernatant liquid (serum) is carefully collected for further analysis.
